We meet monthly on the second Wednesday at 9:30am (except for July and August) for study and fellowship. Our missionary work continues a long and effective ministry locally, nationally and internationally. Locally we support Casa de Amistad, Valley Mission, SACRA, Weekday Religious Education and Western State. Through the UMW district we give to Kingsway Ministries, Henry Fork Service Center and Blackstone. We also pledge to missions nationally and internationally.
Our projects are supported by fundraisers and individual gifts. We also prepare meals for the Men’s Club, serve receptions for funerals and other functions.
Come and join with us as we seek to grow together in fellowship, communion and service for our Lord.
The United Methodist Men meet at 5:45 pm on the third Wednesday of every month, with the exception of the summer months. The meals are provided by the United Methodist Women (UMW).
Most of our outreach has developed out of the charitable giving supported by our fundraising activities. Some of the organizations we work with include: Blue Ridge Food Bank, Camp Overlook, Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, SACRA, Valley Mission, Second Mile Club, WRE Association, August Regional Clinic, AMC Hospice, Camp Dragonfly, and Hunters for the Hungry.
Our major fundraiser for the year is our Christmas Tree sale. We sell a total of 200 Whites Pines and Frazier Furs. This event has become a family tradition for many of the city of Staunton over the years.
The St. John's UMC Youth is open to children of all ages, not just middle and high school. We believe that youth are an integral part of a healthy church and strive to include them in all church functions. While we do have certain activities specifically for young people, all wo are young at heart are encouraged to participate.
Some of the activities the youth have participated in include: lunch kitchen at Trinity Episcopal, hikes to drop off food on the Appalachian Trail, running a rest stop for the Fall Foliage Bike Festival, and a Living Nativity.
Each summer we send a group of our youth on a mission trip to help them learn more about what it means to serve God and neighbor.
